Web design for Swansea: a site for the customer on the phone, wherever they are standing

A Swansea business sells to three very different people: the visitor on the Gower or in Mumbles looking for somewhere to eat, stay or hire a board; the resident from Sketty to Morriston looking for a trade or a service; and the student or staff member on two university campuses. One website has to serve all of them from a phone. Ours costs £599 to £1,600 one-off, fixed before we start, built in Wrexham, with the Welsh version as a priced decision rather than a surprise.

What each Swansea customer needs the site to do in the first ten seconds

The city of 238,500 people has a coastline that fills every summer, a university that empties every June, and suburbs that search for a plumber all year. The table is how we build for that.

The Swansea specifics

Things a site built for Swansea gets right that a template does not

The season. A Gower or Mumbles business earns most of its year between Easter and September. The site is built so the seasonal pages, the hours and the booking calendar can be changed in a call with us, not in a ticket queue, and the hosting is tested every week in the months that matter.

The place names. Abertawe and Swansea, Y Mwmbwls and Mumbles, Llansamlet, Treforys and Morriston: the fonts carry every Welsh character, the address uses the SA postcode Google places, and a page can be about a place in both names without one being a translation of the other. The guides cover the .cymru and .wales domain question, which Swansea businesses ask more than most.

The competition. For most trades in Swansea, page one is national lead-generation sites and a couple of long-established locals. The way past them is not a page per suburb with the name swapped; it is a page that is plainly about your work here, photographs of jobs on Swansea streets, and a Google Business Profile that names the districts. We build the site so those are easy to keep up, and the SEO retainer does the keeping up if you would rather not.

The price. Three packages on the pricing page, each listing what it contains, the Welsh version as a priced option, hosting and care as a yearly figure. A Swansea quote you can compare line by line, from a studio that would rather publish the number than win a meeting.

How it is built

Static, fast, yours

Static pages on our own stack, no WordPress, no plugins, no template licence: a site that loads in under two seconds on a phone at Rhossili with one bar of signal. Your photographs, sorted and captioned; your words after one call and a checklist; structured data for the business and every service; a sitemap with a real date on every page; Search Console and Analytics in your name. A form with eight layers against spam that reaches your phone in seconds and is tested every week under hosting and care.

If you have a Welsh speaker in the business, they write the Welsh version and we proofread; if not, the signed-off English goes to a translator. Either way it is a second site with its own pages and its own address, which is what the bilingual page explains and the worked example shows decision by decision.

After launch

The first ninety days for a new Swansea site

  1. Week one

Search Console and Analytics in your name, the sitemap submitted, the Google Business Profile completed with the SA postcode, the services and the hours, and the first review request sent to the last three customers.

  2. Weeks two to six

Google finds and indexes the pages. The first impressions appear for the specific searches: the service plus Mumbles, Sketty or Gorseinon, not yet the city-wide term. We check nothing is broken and the form still reaches your phone.

  3. Weeks six to twelve

The query report shows which pages Google half-likes. That is where the £399-a-month retainer starts if you want it: one page a month rewritten or added from your own data, the profile kept moving, a two-page report. The first month is included with the two larger packages.

Questions Swansea businesses ask

Are you based in Swansea?

No, in Wrexham, and we say so rather than putting a virtual office on the Kingsway. The work is remote as standard and we come to Swansea by appointment. What that buys you is a fixed published price and the person who builds the site answering the phone.

Is Welsh worth it for a Swansea business?

For some. Around one in nine Swansea residents speaks Welsh, and the share rises sharply as you go north and west into the Swansea Valley and Carmarthenshire, where many of your customers may live. A business selling to those communities, or supplying the council, the health board or the university, gains from a Welsh version; a city-centre shop selling to students and visitors usually does not. We put the answer in writing in the audit.

What does a Swansea website cost?

£599, £1,200 or £1,600 one-off, fixed before we start; the Welsh version from £350; hosting and care £159 a year. The pricing page lists what each package contains so you can compare it with any Swansea quote line by line.

Can the site take bookings for a holiday let or a tour?

Yes. For a Gower cottage, a Mumbles guesthouse or a paddleboard hire we build the booking path around whichever system you already use, or add one, and the site shows availability rather than sending the visitor to Booking.com to pay commission. The tourism page and the worked example of a bilingual holiday-let site show how it looks.

Our current site was built by a friend in 2016. Can you fix it rather than rebuild?

We look first. If the site can be edited and the problem is words, photographs and speed, a redesign of what exists is cheaper than starting again, and the redesign page says when that is true. If it is a page-builder site nobody can edit, or it takes six seconds on a phone, a rebuild at the Starter price is usually less than a year of patching.

How quickly can it be live?

About four weeks for Starter or Business, from the first call to launch, if the photographs and answers come back promptly. A bilingual site adds the translation, about a week after the English is signed off. If you have a season starting, say so and we plan backwards from it.

Send your current site or the name of the business, what you sell and to whom. The audit says what the site needs, whether Welsh earns its cost for your customers, and the price, in writing, before any meeting.
