SEO in Wales: be found for the work, in the town, in either language

Search engine optimisation for a business in Wales is three jobs done every month: a Google Business Profile that ranks in the map for your town, pages that answer the searches for your services in the places you serve, and mentions on the directories and bodies that count here. From £399 a month, 3-month minimum, and one business per town and trade on the monthly SEO tiers, confirmed personally in the reply. The first month is free with any website package.

How Wales searches

Three million people, two languages, and most of them searching in English

Wales had 3,107,500 people at the 2021 Census and 538,300 of them speak Welsh. Nearly all of the Welsh speakers also search in English, so the English service pages carry the volume everywhere, including Caernarfon. What changes across the country is the competition. In Cardiff, Swansea and Newport the searches for a trade are contested by national firms and lead-generation sites, and a local business wins the map pack before it wins the results. In Gwynedd, Ceredigion and Powys the same search often has three real businesses and a directory on page one, and a properly built page can sit above them within a season.

The map decides a lot of it. “Electrician near me” typed in Pwllheli shows three profiles before any website, chosen from the Google Business Profile: the primary category, the service area, the reviews and their pace, the photographs, and whether the profile and the website agree on the name, the address and the phone. Most profiles we audit in Wales were set up once, in English only, with the service area either a single town or half the country. Then the border: a business in Wrexham, Mold or Monmouth serves Chester, Shrewsbury and Hereford, and the site must say so in the towns' own names, or Google takes the Welsh address as the whole story.

The month

What we do each month, week by week, and what you see

The monthly SEO cycle for a business in Wales
WeekThe workWhat you see
1Search Console read by a person: which searches showed you, which pages were shown and not clicked, where you sit for the searches that pay. The month's plan is written from that, not from a checklist.A short email: what moved, what did not, what we are doing this month
2The page. A service in a place you genuinely serve, a guide answering a question customers ask on the phone, or a project write-up. Written after a ten-minute call, checked by you, translated where the site is bilingual.A private link to approve, then the page live with its Welsh twin
3The profile and the mentions. Categories, services and photos kept right on the Google profile in both languages; reviews replied to; listings on the Welsh directories and sector bodies that matter for you, name, address and phone identical everywhere.New reviews answered; a list of where you were added
4The technical pass and the report. Speed on a phone, pages indexed, titles adjusted where a page is shown and not clicked, structured data checked. Two pages of plain English from the person who did the work. The report, with numbers you can check yourself in Search Console

Welsh-language search

Small numbers, no competition, and the customer who was looking for you

A Welsh speaker in Bala who wants a plumber will usually type “plumber Bala”. Some will type “plymar Bala”, and for that search there is, in most towns, nobody. A Welsh-language page for the service, on a bilingual site with hreflang so Google knows which version to show, takes that search uncontested. The volumes are honest: a handful a month for a trade in a small town, more for accommodation, food and anything a Welsh-medium school or a council might buy.

Where it pays, the monthly page is written in both languages, the Google profile carries a Welsh description and Welsh services, and reviews are answered in the language they were written in. Where it does not, we say so and spend the month on the English pages. The decision is made from the query data in Search Console and revisited each quarter.

The tiers

Three sizes of the same month

The work above is in every tier. The difference is how many towns and how much new content a month. Everything each tier contains is on the pricing page.

Local£399 a month
One business, one town, one Google Business Profile. Monthly Search Console report in plain English.
Growth£599 a month
A business serving a county or a region, or one town with big-name competition. Quarterly technical and speed pass.
Wales-wide£799 a month
Two or more bases, or a business selling across Wales and into England. Google Ads set-up and management on request.

What we refuse

Because each of them has cost a Welsh business its rankings

A page for every town in Wales on a template with the name swapped: Google's doorway policy names exactly this, and the filter takes the real pages down with the fake ones. Keywords in the business name on the Google profile, bought reviews, reviews asked only of the happy customers: suspension for the first, and for the rest a policy breach and, since 2025, an offence under UK consumer law. Machine-translated Welsh pages to look bilingual: they read as machine Welsh to every Welsh speaker and rank for nothing worth having.

And guarantees of page one. Google is not ours to promise, so we promise the work listed and show the numbers every month. The results page shows what that looks like; the audit shows where you stand today.

Questions businesses in Wales ask us

What does one business per town and trade mean?

On the monthly tiers we work for one business per town and trade, because we cannot honestly push a plumber in Bangor and a second plumber in Bangor for the same searches. Put your town on the quote form and the reply confirms personally whether it is free. If it is taken, we say so and do not take your money.

How long before it brings work?

The Google Business Profile moves within weeks. A new service page settles in three to six months, longer in Cardiff or Swansea where national firms sit on page one, shorter in Gwynedd or Powys where the competition is thin. The audit says which for your town, and nothing is judged before day 28.

Do Welsh-language pages rank?

Yes, and usually with no competition, because almost nobody builds them. The volumes are small: a Welsh search for a trade in a town might be a few a month against a few hundred in English. They are worth having when the customers are Welsh speakers, and not worth paying for translation where they are not.

Do I have to sign a long contract?

3 months minimum, then monthly with a month's notice. If it is not working by month six we say so before you do. You keep everything when you stop: the site, the pages, the profile, the reviews.
